The site was established in the ninth century and remains one of the most important Jain pilgrimage sites in southern India. Every 12 years (next in 1993) the great statue is given a ritual libation. The town is 170 kilometers (106 miles) from Bangalore.

In 1310, a Muslim army swept down from Delhi on a rampage, brutally killing its citizens and looting its treasures. Any hope that the city might be rebuilt was crushed forever in 1326 when a second onslaught wrought greater destruction and brought the Hoysala empire to an end. And yet the remains are magnificent.

Provisional Itinerary

  • DAY 1 : BANGALORE/WAYANAD – Departure from Bangalore to Wayanad by Special Coach.
  • DAY 2 : WAYANAD – Arrival at Wayanad. Check in at Hotel. After Fresh Up & Breakfast Visit Edakkal Caves-The two caves are located at a height of 1000mt on Ambukutty Mala near Ambalavayal. The new Stone Age pictorial writings on the wall of these natural caves at Edakkal are evidence of the civilization that existed in these regions in prehistoric times. The caves can be accessed only by a 1 Km trekking trail from Edakkal. After Lunch Departure to visit Pookode Lake-A natural fresh water lake surrounded by evergreen forest and rolling hills. A Freshwater aquarium with large variety of Fish is an added attraction. You can also avail of Boating Facilities, Children’s Park etc… After Dinner, Camp Fire & Party Games Night Halt at Wayanad.
  • DAY 3 : WAYANAD/BANGALORE – After early fresh up visit Muttaga wild life sanctuary – Visit muttaga wild life sanctuary to observe the herds of elephants, bear, deer, wild pig etc & back to hotel for breakfast. After breakfast check out from the hotel and departure for Shopping at Wayanad. After lunch departure to visit soochippara falls – The waterfalls at Soochippara near Meppadi are really a treasure of nature, yet to be discovered. The stretches of waterfalls ranging at places from 100 to 300 feet height are a treat to the eyes. After dinner departure to Bangalore.
